What going on with my leather

Can anyone help me with my leather? Not sure what is happening. It stands nice and tall. Expands really well.

But this hole and the side has me worried.

Looks to be self propagating. .. keep good flow on it to promote healthy separation and ensure there are no dead spots on our around it that could trigger bacterial problems with the open flesh. ..

Perfectly normal thing most leathers do.
