what happened to my torch?

In one day my torch withered and died. The second head is fine and shows no sign of stress in the past 2 days. There was no browning or goop (I don't know what brown jelly looks like?). The parameters of the tank have not changed. There have been no additions, I have not moved anything around and nothing else in the tank looks different. I have had this coral for close to 10 months.
What could do this?

sometimes euphyllias will lose a head for no reason .But the rest of the colony is fine.Brown jelly looks just how it sounds a jelly looking stuff will be around the head.You dont want it to get on the rest of the coral it can be passed on that way

thanks acrodave, so are you saiying that sometimes this happens and there is nothing that can be done? I guess I can live with that.
