i am getting into taking pictures of my tank and am trying to figure out what a good camera for a reasonable price would be?

What do you consider to be a reasonable price?

The Canon 5DmII is a great camera and a very reasonable price, considering it's features, but it's $2600 for just the body. It's all a matter of perspective. ;)

You can get a good used DSLR ( Canon or Nikon) package online in that price range. I found mine for 450 on craigslist, a Canon Rebel DSLR, 2 len's, 2- 1 GB SD cards, flash, 2 batteries, a couple editing software cd's and a few other things. So if you know what you are looking for there are some good deals to be had. There are also some good online vendors that sell used. HTH Tim

Used D50 Body, used tamron 90mm macro lens, and a Nikon 18-70 for walkaround. Will probably run you around 600-700 bucks if you find deals.

But, most likely, a good point and shoot would be a better fit until you know what you're getting into with DSLRS.

BTW, your initial question was probably the vaguest I've ever seen, lol.

If $500 is your top limit I'd look at a really nice point and shoot vs a DSLR.

Something like the Canon G10 would do nicely.

*butts in*

I have been eye balling the G10, does anyone who posts on here regularly use it? I am currently using a G5 and i feel limited with its dof and macro ability (or it could very likely be the user limiting the camera).

Agreed.
$500 would not get you where you want to be in the DSLR world.
