Similar things appeared on my LR and Christmas tree rock months ago, no visible troubles. May be it can be removed, as a clam - by cutting byssal connection at the bottom of shell.
I got a few frags a couple years ago with some clams attached to them and the are still alive and growing. Also had some come in on some live rock and they are still alive too.
I also got a few bivalves similar to that one on a piece of rock about six years ago. They are both still alive and have grown quite a bit. I guess they just get food when I feed my corals.
