I'll post a pick tonight, but I'll start with a discription of this creature. I purchased some live rock from an established tank. cleaned it for a month changing Salt water and heavy duty circ pump. When I placed the rock in tank I noticed an encrusted attached tube curly on the rock extending out of the rock with an opening of about a tad less than a 1/4 inch. I noticedsomething moving inside, looked for it at night thinking it was some sort of coco type worm or maybe feather duster. Then yesterday I see this long thin, and I mean thin string comeout from this thing about 5 " I noticed some seaweed pieces form feeding the fish attached to it. Them low an behold its started to retract back into the opening of the tube! took about 30 seconds to pul it all in food and all. Wow the son of a B#$%$# is fishing. I figured wow he pulled in enough to eat for a week. One hour later its doing it again, down right facinating to watch. Has anyone have any idea what it is? I know some corals do something like this, If so what comes out of a tube, by the way the tube is white, string is like a single silk strand, always just one. you cant even really see it unless food is attached to it. Have I discoverd a Salt water silk worm?LOL I love this hobby

Leviathaan, I googled but the string doesnt look like the pic, I 'll post pic tonight after I put new corals in tank. based on my discription you came damn close, and you still may be right.

Sounds a lot like a large vermetid snail, though again, without a pic it's hard to tell. I have them all over my tank and I love watching them letting out their "lines" when I feed the tank.

I have both the vermetid snails (small) and one big one. He is big, like a full inch long. And he sends out drift nets, it seems. He doesn't make any trouble, so I have left him. He has also not reproduced, that I can tell. Another plus.
