What is the difference between Prostrata and Milliepora?

one is called prostrata and the other is called millipora:lolspin: jk Im pretty sure the difference is in the corralite structure and not just pe but I think possibly polyp shape/size, but Im far from an expert so lets wait till someone who knows what there talking about chimes in.

Hopefully this helps,

My red milli is on the left and the red prostrata is in the middle. I notice prostratas have a thinner branches vs milli's.

i love it i should have gone with to 400 instead of 3 250 do u have a full tank shot and a few details about your tank

Honestly, (unless your a true coral taxonomist) its pretty difficult to differienticate between these two species of Acropora 100%. The typical growth of A. prostrata is usually more vertical and resembles the growth pattern of a staghorn. The growth pattern of A. Milliepora is more dense and more clustered.- BUT- all of these growth characteristics vary according to environmental varibles- water flow/current dynamics especially.

In order to attain a more accurate ID look at the corallites, A. milliepora will have more protruding spaced out "scoops" for corallites - While, A. prostrata tends to have more compressed smaller "pinched" corallites compared to
A. milliepora

Yeah upgrading to 400w's was a great idea for my tank. Growth has been very good. Here is a FTS in this thread at the bottom http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1497916&page=29

Some basic info on my tank: 67g 36x24x18, ATB 840 1.5, Geo 618 calcium reactor. Dose only vodka + brightwell mb7.

Sorry to take this thread off topic
