What is the effect of phosphates?

I have a 75 gallon reef tank, and i have had a hard time with algae control.

I test ph, ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, and salinity at least once a week, they all check out perfect.

But i have never done a phosphate test and I have i have to clean the tank every 2 days, Is this a cause of a phosphate problem?

i currently bought a rena xp3 canister filter and a 400 gph powerhead for flow and it cleared up so far.

Unfortunately, phosphates are hard to check for. Phosphates get bound up in the rock, sand and algae that is in the tank so even if your water tests 0, it doesn't really mean anything. Telling us a little more about your tank may help us narrow the problem down.
