what is the growth pattern for frogspawn?

I got a branch of frogspawn a while back, Id say 1 year?

well the tenticles dont ever seen to come all the way out for whatever reason, but I guess thats aside the point.

it had 3 heads, 3 DISTINCT heads, each on its own little branch.

but now 2 of the heads each have 3 "mouths", and the 3rd head has 2 "mouths"

sorry I dont know the correct term to describe it.

thing is, all these heads are still attahed to each other, they havent branched out to become spread out, how many times is it going to split before it extends in some way?

side note, any reason why my tenticles are so short? there are no other corals near it. flow is moderate I think, lots of light, its about 12" down under 250w MH.

They may be short because they are receiving too much light... Really a lot depends on your waterquality and whatnot... It may even be the type of frogspawn... I have a brown with green tips that doesn't extend near as much as my Green with Purple tips...

There are basically two different types of Frogspawn though... One is branching and the other is a wall type... I've seen each branch have more than one mouth on my branching types, so that isn't uncommon... Hope this helps... :)

wait, on second inspection, it is green with purple tips.

you can see a bit of an algea issue there... hopefully that will solve itself now that the skimmer is working. perhaps thats why they wont fully extend also...

I'd go ahead an manually remove as much of the algae as you can. If it is 12" under the mh, that is probably too much light. I'd move it to the side so that it doesn't get hit by the spot light of the mh.

you all could be right. there are a few branches in there that have little side polyps, but maybe it is a torch. does it look healthy? or kinda reclusive?

Torch
I have one thats the same as that one. And it sweepers don't reach really too far, its kind of the shorter tentacle version . I also have the regular brown one and that one is different, its sweepers are super long.

I have the same problem where my frogspawn wont extend completely because of algea. I've been removing as much as I can but not all of comes off, and the frogspawn continues to stay partially closed. How long can it survive like this until I can get this algea under control?
Thanks, sorry for the hijack.
