What is this on my hermit ??????

There is something on one of my hermits that wasn't there before. It also appears to be something inside the growth.......

There is something on one of my hermits that wasn't there before. It also appears to be something inside the growth.......

I had this happen to one of my hermit where this grey spiral, cone shaped thing just randomly attached to the crab's shell... and when I tried to get it off it wouldn't release so... maybe somebody else can chime in and answer this.

Looks like some sort of Thyca sp. or Hipponix sp.
