Ok, I don't even know what to begin to call this to do a search on it. You will see the inflated red stuff on the rock in the pics below. What in the world is it? It has not shrunk up or anything when moved or bothered. I like it but would like to know more about it. Thanks

Joe

Looks like Halymenia to me. I had some pop up in my 90 and loved it, but once I put a tang in it disappeared overnight.

Well, I did not know what to call it. It reminds me most (as far as the tissue goes) of a frogspawn or hammer. I have never seen any algae like this that was not "plant like" and swelled up with water like this before. Fells just like LPS tissue. My purple tank has not payed it any attention.

Ebn, I think you nailed it for me. Thanks for giving me something to look for. Anyone know much about it?

Ya, definately macro algae.I had one once, grew into quite the lil bush too before I gave it to some other folks. Very slippery yet firm tissue. It's common name is 'Dragon tongue'.

My Purple Tang devoured it. It's one of the nicer macroalgae you can have and usually comes on rocks from the Carribean, but if it's bothering you just pull out. I think it looks great with that Porites (which is very nice color, as well)

Well, guess what...... my Purple Tang is starting to show some interest in it now!!! Anyone know if I can cut some of this off and attach it to something to put in my sump?? I would like to keep it.
