what is this?

Anybody have an idea as to what kind of a coral this is?
I thought it looked cool, I bought it, but I'm sure what it is.

Looks like a dead sponge

my guess would be a monti. or a cap coral. (SPS) but i don't see any polyp extentions

Could even be a mat of GSP that's retracted...although the color is a lil' off for GSP.

Could you get a close up of one of its polyps? That would make it a lot easier. My guess is its an LPS or SPS but its polyps are not extended but I'm probably wrong, definately not a GSP or a sponge. You should post this in the LPS or SPS forum.

IT almost looks like a turbinaria coral but I have never seen one that was anywhere near as dark as that one.

Thats what I was thinking too, Turbinaria, but looks like it was upside down or in strong current for too long. The top and right side of it looks like the polyps are somewhat comming out and it looks like a lighter color around the edges.
