Yeah it looks like some sort of sponge if the pic was a little bigger it would easier to identify

looks like simple sponges to me as well, I have a number of them in my tank and they don't bother anything.

In fact I have one identical to that on the bottom half of a hole in my live rock. It's like a little pillow to my blenny since he loves to stick his head out of that spot.

yep...ball sponges. natural, living water filters.
