I have a lot of z's and p's. This is the second time these magicians have grown out and then suddendly developed this stuff. Last time i was able to cut the infected and they ended up growing out till about a week ago. Now this is them. Help me id this killer, will it affect my others paly's? I mean it hasnt ever yet but could it? What causes it? (sorry didnt have time to use the dslr)

Thanks

Dana

51 views and no one has a clue? Cmon.....throw me a bone here. If i can salvage them ill cut the uninfected. DO i need a better pic?

Looks like slime algae or something along those lines. What sort of flow are they in? What have you dipped them in? Have you tried scrubbing the gunk off lightly with a tooth brush? Can you remove them from the rest of the group?

ive seen it called a bacterial infection, not enough flow etc....try an H202 dip (mixed with tank water) ive had that help mine,

sometimes jsut higher flow helps them as well.
good luck, i have no magician lucky they always die on me yet i love those buggers.

They got a decent flow on them. Havent dipped them because they are attached to a base rock and have been in my tank for about 8 months. Removing at the point is pointless, 95% of the mini colony is infected.

This is the only paly thats done this on me. I dont quite understand it. IMO they are in a great spot for flow/light ect.

Thanks for the responses, i might try brushing the crap off tonight if i can find time.

I've had that a few times. I use a brush to gently remove the infection and keep the area clean. I will usually dose vitamin C for a few weeks and they bounce right back (search RC for vit C dosing instructions).

Yep that woulda been the right thing to do as I left it alone and they are now all gone.....another lesson learned the hard way.
