What kind of salt do you use?

I know there's tons of threads but wanted to see what kind of salt everyone in FMAS uses. I've been in the hobby for quite some time but have always used reef crystals. I just sold all of my tanks and I'm starting new with a 29 biocube and want to start right and fresh.

So what salt do you use? Is salt just salt? Tell me what makes you use the salt you use!

Thanks!

How often are you planning to do water changes?
Are you going to dose 2 part?
What type of corals will you be adding?

Unless you are dosing 2 part, probably best to get a salt that has good alk, Ca and Mg levels when mixed.

Lately, I've been using Red Sea Pro and have been very happy with it. I would recommend it if you are going to be setting up a reef tank in your 29gal

Hey Dave, thanks for the feedback!

How often are you planning to do water changes? Every 2 weeks
Are you going to dose 2 part? I have the BRS 2 part but I am in the process of trying to get 2 dosers. So currently I will be relying on water changes
What type of corals will you be adding? I will mainly be adding softies and LPS. Currently I have yumas, zoanthids, and a wellso. My goal is to add frogspawns, torches, and hammers. I'm not a really big SPS kind of guy...yet. Maybe that'll be my next tank =-)

Dave, I read something about Red Sea having a bad batch of salt from the manufacturer which kind of scared me away from Red Sea. I've heard great things in the past when I was aggressive in the hobby but now that I'm coming back I read about the bad batch =-(

I used to use RSCP and was really happy with it. Recently switched to IO because although I love the RSCP, its a PITA to mix and doesn't do well when it sits. It also precipitates a lot so you end up with a bunch of loose stuff at the bottom of the bucket that you have to clear or your next batch of salt will be even cloudier. If you are only going to mix what you are going to use, then I like it. If you like to mix larger batches, then not my first choice. JMHO.

The Ocean :D not close either, near the reefs. But if I don't go out on the boat for a while, I have a back up of reef crystals.

So what salt do you use? IO Reef Crystals or the regular IO if i cant find a bucket of reef crystals

Is salt just salt? i believe the base is derived from the same method(not same source), but what makes it unique is the proprietary blend of additives the manuf. adds to the base

Tell me what makes you use the salt you use! it fits the 3 B's

I prefer DD H2O but its become difficult to get here in SF. Some claim DD and RSP is the same.
