would it be suitable for my 10g bb nano? i am looking for a nice bright star. thx!

Depending on the species, most fromias are considered detritivores . A 10 g seems a bit small, but its hard to tell what the size of the star is from the picture.

Also your water params have to be spot on... not necessarily pristine, just cannot shift too much in the way of salinity, ph, etc. as stars are very sensitive to this. This is typically why a smaller tank is not a good idea for Fromias IME - too difficult to keep the params in check with only 10 gallons water to play with. It is also very important to follow correct acclimation procedures with these stars if you decide to give it a go. Do not cut any corners as they will die if acclimated fast- when they say 2 hours+, it really means 2 hours plus.

My personal opinion is that you only try one of these with a larger tank given their sensitivity to change in the water params, something very difficult to manage with a smaller system.

yes that's one aspect of having a small tank that gets into a lot of live stock selection. i have a auto top off (diy style) that works pretty well and can keep the sg pretty stable. i also have a skimmer and a fuge which is light in reverse cycle of the main display. hopefully this will keep the ph a little stable as well.

since my tank is bb and i like to keep it clean, there isn't much algae. if i can supplement it with something, i *might* give it a try. thanks for the info.

I wouldn't put that in a 10g tank. While it might look nice, it really would be a tight fit. It would quite frankly look out of place in that small of a tank.

Fromia monilis by the looks of it btw, which a little searching has them listed of 10cm in the aquarium (4")... you'll need to feed this animal as well, not just let them graze your tank.

Still wouldn't pull the trigger on this.

oh 4", i guess LA list them a little under size. anyway, as long as it feeds easily, i should be able to supplement it. a really nice star.

btw, has anyone seen them locally?

thanks!
