what kind of starfish

I don't really know what kind of starfish that is, but it looks like it could be a species of Knobby Star, which would be VERY BAD in a reef tank.
Check this article (part 1 & 2) for some good info on stars. There must be hundreds of species or more, and few are really good in a reef tank.

well hes been in there for about 2ish years. maybe a lil more. he just appeared one day. so far he has not bothered any corals at all. i was just wanting to know the name of it just out of curiosity.

Normally starfish with bumps on them are predatory but if you haven't had a problem I'd leave it alone. There are so many kinds of starfish it would be hard to pin it down. Even the LFSs get them wrong sometimes.
