what makes a pair?

i have to black and white occ clowns. bought both as juvenile. one is noticably bigger. im assuming female.

they hang out together 95% of the time. does this make them a pair? what behavior dicates pairing?

These are just how I define things,

pair -- 2 clowns
bonded pair -- been together for about 6 months and still tolerate each other. (( the reason I say 6 months is I that I have had a female turn on a male within that time frame )).
Mated pair -- a pair that have spawned (( could even further break that down to a "spawning pair" to indicate a pair that are still actively spawning )).
