What media for Eheim 2213

I just got this filter from a friend. What type of media should i put in it and where? I have a 55 gallon tank with plenty of LR and a super skimmer 125 but i would like to be able to run carbon. Can i put some carbon in a media bag and stuff the rest with filter floss?

I would skip the filter floss unless you want mechanical filtration. You may have to change it more often than the carbon and it would jut sit there dirty and produce nitrate. Just the carbon in a bag will be fine, maybe a couple of those coarse Eheim pads to keep it contained.

So just run it empty with a bag of carbon sitting inside? And add floss when i want to polish the water?
