I have a 30g tank that I would like to make into a saltwater. We have a 42g hex freshwater tank that has been up and running for over 10 years. I ordered a catalog from Foster & Smith to see what I need...and it seems like a lot! No decision has been made about either just fish or if we should have live rock and corals in there too. I live in a small town so selection of saltwater supplies are very low and what there is available is very high priced. So ordering or buying off of Craigslist is necessary.
I have resealed the tank and have a Eheim Professional II canister with 2 trays of media and an Instant Ocean hydrometer. So from here I need to do some shopping. Lighting (T5? LEDs?Coralife Lunar Aqualight HO T5?), protein skimmer, submersible heater (or inline heater?), thermometers (1 or 2), uv sterilizer, cooling fan?, powerhead?, testing kit, salt (I have Instant Ocean but can get a different kind if there is one that's better), chemicals (what do I need....so much to choose from).
What do I really need? Yes all of this would be great in a world where I have unlimited amounts of money. Suggestions on brands. I need a shopping list! Then what fish go together....Wish list: easy to care for..colorful..lots of interest, variety, and movement in the tank. Would love suggestions and ideas please!! :hmm5:
