What plants will thrive in cold water?

I'm setting up a new seahorse/planted tank and thinking about a cold water species of seahorse. The water temp will be around 65F.

What plants are known to thrive in these temps? I like codium, halimeda, halymenia, red grape, and eventually seagrasses, but don't know if they would thrive.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks,

Cold water plants will do well, some tropical macros/plants living close to colder water areas may also do well. If you go for true cold water plants keep in mind that many have a dormant season where they may die back for periods of time.

so what plants are considered "cold water plants"? Are there any that are available to the hobby?

Which of the tropical species should do okay in colder water?

Ulva and Codium definitely live at those temps...except that there are different species of each that live in different areas. I don't really think taking a plant collected in the Caribbean and putting it into cold water will work out. There are however places that will sell true coldwater algae and plants online.

Bill at Billsreef.com sells coldwater plants that he collects himself. I dont think its the best time of year to be collecting though, but he is a bit further south than I am so perhaps the water temps are a bit higher.

Thanks David and Clam

I contacted Bill's Reef. He actually lists "Temperate Water Items" on his site, but doesn't have anything listed under that heading ... like you said, probably not the right season.

I'll try a few species of codium and see what Bill has to say.

Thanks,
