What power heads for a 200g?

I just bought a 200g oceanic. What should I use for water flow besides the main pump? What brand, size and how many.

I think you need to do more research here. What one person likes another dislikes.

First decide on how much flow you want to start with for your tank's needs. Then decide how many pumps you can handle seeing in your display. Also consider the size of each pump, the price, etc.

I decided on using Maxi-Jet 1200s with the mod kit for my 280 gallon tank. I feel it will give me the most flow for the lowest price and still a quality product. I am going to make a rock and oyster shell back wall for the tank and hide the powerheads with the same material.

Have fun choosing. Let us know what you decide on.

maxijet mods arent even in the same category as Tunze or Vortechs. With either Tunze or vortechs, you will have a good reliable pump. I had a maxijet 1200 mod for my 60g,along with a couple 6045s, and it was loud and not vey reliable. But They sure are cheaper than Tunzes and Vortechs, if thats what youre going for. But then again, you get what you pay for....

The vortechs have a battery back up for 30 hours. I'd get that in case power fails, you will still have water movement. It's worth it. I plan on getting one for my 210.

I know but like I said I am looking at price first and foremost. My Maxi-Jets have been reliable over the years so I figured this was a better choice than Seio pumps on a budget.

I agree. For the price the maxijets are disposable.

For my 220 I plan on having 2 or 3 tunze 6205's with a tunze wavebox.

I went with MaxiJet mods for the same reason on my 300g....price. So far, so good. But, then again, it has only been a few months. I can barely hear mine probably because my Durso overflow noise.

Tunze and Vortech are probably the best most reliable and most flow and energy efficient. Sure they are a bit more but if your a serious reefer than why not? Personally i would go with Vortech. Why? well i have been researching and I feel Vortech is just right for me.. maybe not you but this is why i chose them.

1. Small foot print (less than tunze)
2. Motor on onside of tank (no elec in the tank) less heat etc..
3. Lots of flow - 500-3000gph - very impressive and broad flow.
4. Batter back up - up to 30 hours or 15 hours for 2 pumps (this is very nice to have if you have a power outage..)
