The size of the sand is really the most important consideration for the sand bed rather than the type of sand unless you are wanting the buffering benefits of aragonite. I've heard of sandblasting sand in the correct size distribution being used for DSB construction.
Personally, I used Tropic Eden Aragasnow for my DSB along with about 15% live sand from Florida and the South Pacific and have been really happy with how it turned out.
I've used everything from the most expensive to the cheapest play sand. I've been most satisfied is Pulverized Limestone. It's available in the plant/garden section of lowes or Home Depot. Basically it's aragonite, but instead of paying $40/bag you only pay $4
