What size pipe for my GH elbow?

Does anyone know from experience if a 1-1/2" pvc pipe will fit snugly into a Gl*******s 700gph kit bulkhead elbow? Is the black elbow itself even pvc?

Just thought I'd try here before emailing the company...

OK, now that I know that, I'm hoping some creative person(s) can help me figure out if it's possible to have that elbow fitting somehow drain into a 2" pipe, rather than a 1.5" pipe. I wasn't able to find (not surprisingly) anything that would fit snugly OVER a fitting such as this overflow elbow, rather the inside of it.

Glue your 1.5" pipe into the elbow and glue a 1.5">2" bushing over that and continue on with 2" pipe. Why do you want to up it to 2"?

Greech, this will be my only drain and I'd like to come as close as possible to no chance of it clogging. I'm also hoping a larger diameter pipe will be quieter; therefore, I'd like to avoid any 1.5" pipe.

I looked at the braided nylon and the spa-flex hoses at Lowe's, and it seems neither will fit over the outer diameter of the elbow. Right now I'm feeling like this isn't going to work...

Thanks for your reply!

It's because that 1.5" elbow is made for a 1.5" pipe to fit inside of it. You can insert a very short piece of 1.5" pipe and then the 1.5">2" bushing over that and then continue with 2" pipe.

Yes, I'm hoping to find away around that problem. I'd rather avoid the "bottleneck" of the 1.5" pipe, if I could!

1.5" is a dang big pipe. what size tank and water will you be moving? BTW, cant see anything big enough getting through the overflow box and into your pipe that large the way they are built.

I suppose it is big - it just didn't look as big to me when I looked inside the pipe!
