Clarin:
It all depends on which SH you want to keep. but the general rule of thumb for Erectus and Reidi SHs is the following:
- 25-30 Gals for the first pair, 10-15 gals for every additional pair
- 20" minimum height (you can probably get away with 17-18")
- Must maintain temps of 72-74 degrees
- 4-7x water turnover. any higher will probably kill your SH
- No aggressive tank mates, SH are very slow at eating although they can be trained to eat from a plate or bowl which makes it much easier to feed them.
- 2-4 hitching posts per SH is ideal
- You should provide a shaded area for them to hide from the high intensity light
- Skimmers will greatly increase your chances of avoiding a crash if you "forget to change the water this week"
- SHs are very messy eaters and create a very high bioload in comparison to other creatures their size.
- UV sterilizers are a plus but not 100% necessary.
- ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS buy tank bred SH, NEVER wild caught ones.
IMHO your best bet is to get yourself a Solana tank and adapt a Chiller to it; however you can get away with some of the cubes out there, just remember that the smaller the tank is the harder it is for you to adapt a chiller to it, along with a skimmer which IMO is a must have.
In a Solana tank you could probably get 2 pairs of SHs and a nice pair of perculas along with some CUC.
