It all depends on your water quality, if you go to Fiji, the sps corals grow right on the beach, when there's a low tide they are exposed to air, and temperatures in the 100s, nothing happens to them, but that's Fiji island, so if you had that good quality water it doesnt mater, an average 5 deg swing will probably be OK for your fish tank. like Roger said 1deg would be without a question ultimate
I finally got my nailed down to .5 degrees...love that little TOM thermometer that has a high and low to show. Figure it's not bad with a nano and no chiller. We'll see what happens when the a/c is running more in the summer though.
I have also heard that even if you keep your temp high, that stability is the absolute key...trying to keep the "swing" as minimal as possible.
