What the heck is wrong with my Angel

Got him a week ago and he's only nibbled a little on some clam, so that's an issue. But today his head has a weird white patch on one side. See photos. Any idea what this could be?

It kind of looks like HLLE. With him not eating this would make sense. He needs to start eating to get better and clams aren't really the best for angels as a diet.

Angels are notorious for flukes, have you FW dipped him to check or even just treated for it? My regal wouldn't eat till I treated for flukes and then it started eating.

I treated him with prazipro already & the store coppered him. I'm trying to get him to eat, but the naso he's in QT with has just been eating everything so fast. I just moved the naso to another qt, so maybe he'll start eating. Does hlle come that quickly?

Usually it’s a progression. Keep an eye on it and post another picture of him tomorrow. If he doesn’t improve maybe an antibiotic like bifuran or kanaplex should be used.

Does it look like his head is eroding away or does it look kind of scabby?

After looking at it better it looks like his flesh is peeling away from his face. I would pick up those antibiotics and treat him tomorrow if possible. Furan 2(bifuran) should clear it up but adding kanaplex would cover a much wider spectrum of bacteria.

Acriflavine(ruby reef rally) is an antiseptic, that will help to heal the wound. This can be given as a bath.

Thanks JustinM, I'll see if I can find either of them locally tomorrow. Do you think this could be a reason for him not eating?

Looked at him this morning and it's moved over to the other side now too, so it's gotten worse quickly. I did a 25% water change last night, but must have bumped the timer and the lights stayed on all night, I'm sure that didn't help. Hopefully I can find either of the antibiotics today.

I would definitely treat it as an infection. I’m sure you can find it locally in the Philly suburb area.

Even worse tonight, wow is it spreading. My LFS had both meds, so I picked up KanaPlex and just added the first dose. I also got some Garlic Guard, maybe I can get him to eat something.

I will, not very hopeful. If he was eating I think he'd have a chance, but he just sometimes looks at the food and that's it. Even the Garlic didn't get him eating. I even noticed that the bottom of his stomach is starting to get it. I'll be amazed if he's still around next week.

Your infection seems to be moving fast. I am hoping he pulls through for you but sometimes there just isn’t a lot we can do. Kanaplex and furan 2 are both great antibiotics. When infections are serious, we usually recommend the two I suggested for you and metroplex as well. All 3 can be combined.

See how he is tomorrow. If the infection is still spreading, grab some metroplex and add it to the regime. This will give your angel the best fighting chance to beat this.

Here's a close up of his head. Really weird looking.

This morning his blue stripe is almost gone & the stomach spot is now the size of a nickel. At this rate he'll be all white before the weekend. I'm guessing he was just either damaged during the copper treatment at the LFS or during collection, hence the never eating.

My first assumption was bacterial I'm in agreement with Justinm get the trifecta going asap, Kanaplex furon2 and metroplex dose each Med an HR apart from each other and make sure you have an air stone in the tank this combo depletes o2 and can cause sufication

Also if you can get acriflavine and do a 90 min bath, that would be great too.
what are you offering as far as food goes? have you tried live black worms? they are great at getting finicky fish eating, specially angels.
I doubt HLLE progresses as fast as this, bacterial is a good guess and I would act quickly with treatment.

Sorry to say that he was dead when I got home today.

lagatbezan - I tried frozen brine, frozen mysis, frozen mega marine angel, live brine, live blackworms, frozen clams, hikari pellets, NLS pellets, Omega One pellets and even added Garlic Guard, but nothing but a little nibble of the clam.
