Back in January, I lost power for 3 days. Fish came down with ich and so I set up a qt tank. I qt my fish for over 5 weeks with Cupramine. Just as I was about to put them back into the display today, I noticed the blue tang has ich again! Maybe 4-5 noticible white spots on head and body. Shouldn't the copper have killed the ich on it? Prior to today, I havn't seen the ich since the copper killed the initial outbreak.

It's possible your blue tang has flukes or the copper level was not maintained high enough in your QT over the five weeks. What level of copper did you maintain and did you test on a regular basis just before lights out on your QT tank?

Sounds like your close observation saved you some misery. I would recommend you give your DT more time to fallow (8-9 weeks) to increase your odds of wiping out the ich in the DT.

I started the QT on January 9. The display went fallow also January 9. Copper levels for the QT were around .50 for the entire time. Then I changed part of the water and put in a HOB filter with carbon. The tang has the spots right now and he's still in the QT. You don't mean that I have to keep my tank fallow for another 9-10 weeks?

Since you have not put your fish back into the DT yet, you just avoided another problem. Since your DT has been fallow for about 10 weeks, that's good enough.

If the cupramine level was really at 0.5ppm the entire 5 weeks, you probably had a strong strain of ich. That happened to me once. I ended up having to do two more rounds of hypo to get rid of it (I wasn't willing to put my fish under another round of cupramine so that's why i went with hypo). I would suggest that you try the same method.
