hey guys.i have a 280 gallon 3/4" glass tank and on one of the side pieces i noticed a shard of glass missing from the edge.it was where the overflow box used to be but i didnt like the placement of it so im moving the overflow.its on the outside of the tank so i dont know how much that will mess with the strength of the tank and the silicone.with that said do you see any issues with this sliver missing in the aspect of the strength of the tank.the dimensions are 72Lx24Wx36D and its on the side.also what can i fill the void with so i dont cut myself or anyone else when we move the tank.

Jason i would and have just put some silicone over it and leave just a bit extra so you have some protection from the sharp edge . im sure you may be able to find something that will fill and harden but im not of what it is or it may have an impact on the seal integrity through a reaction with the silicone seal itself so i would opt for the silicone as it is 100% compatible and reef safe .

thanks for your help.the shard is on the outside of the tank at the bottom like it hit a corner of something and just shattered out.im more worried about the strength of that panel.being that the tank is 3/4" glass with surrounding glass supports in it i would think the tank could hold the weight and it wouldnt affect it much.just want to be sure before 280 gallons of water end up on my floor.

how deep into the glass is it ? how much into the depth or the 3/4" glass has been broken out ? if its at the bottom of the tank i would be much more concerned then up higher myself but if its a shallow shard i wouldn't worry about it .any possibility of a picture ?

cant take a picture of it cuz my camera is dead.its at the very bottom so no silicone or anything touches it.im just wanting to make sure it wont make the pain of glass lose its strength.it feels like it might be an 1/8th inch deep at the deepest point.i figured i would just silicone it up and then throw a piece of glass inside the tank along that edge for added support.
