and what is the ideal placement in the tank?

each head is a little smaller than a dime and grows out of it's own "tube". very new to LPS so i appreciate any info on this coral.

What you are describing sounds like B. merletti - the smaller type of blasto. The picture looks like it too :)

As far as placement, they don't need direct lighting or lighting that's too strong. People have had luck placing them on vertical angles, and because of their lighting needs they can be placed lower in the tank.

Yep it is a Merletti. I have the same morph. Mine is about 16 inches under a 150W 20K XM and doing great. IMO they are a little easier and will tolerate more light than the Blasto Wellsi. Mine enjoy eating mysis that I feed to the tank.
 
I've got some too. I had them on my rocks in the middle of my tank(65 watts pc/20 gal) and they were fine, when I moved them to the bottom they coloured up a lot(didn't know they'd faded!) and started to open up fuller.
