What type of Skimmer do you use?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to buy a Euro-Reef RS135 (I only have a 20gal with 15gal fuge right now, but I'm planning on a 120 in the near future). But I heard that people have a hard time dialing them in. (ie. water level) Does anyone around here have one and can share their experiences.

Also, what does everyone else have. Maybe I should be looking into a different skimmer.

Thanks!

they are a solid skimmer, not much "dialing in". give JC AQUATICS an email, they are local & authorized Euro Reef vendors, not to mention awesome people to deal with.

I have had ER skimmers for three years without any problems. GSM might be a cheaper alternative since its supposed to be a knock off of the Euro Reef

I second the ER. You may want to go a little larger the the 135 for your 120. I am running the 135 on my 75 gallon reef. I am also contemplating a RS 250 to put on my 120 reef upgrade in the near future.

yeah i chose the ASM G3 for price and i'm fairly happy with it, but there are times i wish i sprung for the ER. the ER is definitly built better, i broke a tab off the skimmer neck on my asm the first day i got it. I also agree with bigsink, the rs135 is probably a little undersized for a 120, i would at least consider the rs180.

I have a aqua medic turbo flotor 1000- I like but i dont think i would buy it again- Its a good skimmer, but I dont think its the best.

I went from a Aqua-C EV-120 ---> ER CS8-2 RC ---> Deltec AP600 ---> Deltec AP702 ---> H&S A200 1260x2 for my 120g.

Deltec for me. But this is a topic that will never end as you will get a tremendous ammounts ofopinion as to which works better over another.

I have the ASM. Not crazy with it. Could someone suggest one that I could use out of the sump? I'd like to make my refuge larger if possible.

you cut the needles off the impeller. then cable tie a few layers of any of several materials. i used 3m scrubber pad but wasn't very happy with it. I am now using gutter guard (which i have a roll of if you want some). I hear the best is enkamat which was hard to get in a small piece, but you can buy it on ebay now.

they use gutter guard in this link, the process is the same with enkamat.

It basically chops up the bubbles smaller and draws more air. supposed to make a significant difference in performance.

shyland, thanks for the link. I will give it a try because I'm not getting alot of skim as it is now. I live in Bayport by the way, used to live in an apt. in Oakdale 15 yrs. ago.
