What would fit??

Ive been cycling my 2.5G dwarf seahorse tank for awhile and I think its almost done. This is my first marine tank and I think I would be rushing it a bit if I got the clean up crew and horses within the next month. (Ive been cycling since the beginning of december) I have not added any bacteria source (no live rock in there now and none will go in) except for frozen brine shrimp. Ive decided to get a shrimp or something to keep in the tank for a few months in order to become a little more experienced. I wont be getting anything until the end of january (after all the high school exams). What could I put in the tank that would survive on flake food or frozen brine?? (and survive freshwater dip) Its ok if its not a beginner animal (I mean if its more work than the super hardy things) because Id like to get used to spending at least 30 minutes a day on the tank. Maybe it this is successful Ill set up a nano reef this summer after I get horses...

The tank has an eclipse hood meant for a 5 gallon eclipse tank, and an azoo palm filter on low. The light keeps the tank between 70 and 74 degrees

My first question is have you been monitoring your water paremiters ? You need to make sure your tank has fully cycled before you add anything to it.
Next thing is IMO you need to get that temp up a bit 76-78 degrees.
As far as sea horses go, I can't help ya there, I know nothing about them, but 2.5 seems mighty small for a more delecate amimal.

for hgelp with sea horses you could go to the sea horse and pipefish forum

im not sure of fish for a tank that small maybe a neon goby (all i can think of)

I have been testing every day and the cycle is not quite over. The seahorses are fine in this small tank, they're only an inch long and many other people have raised them in tanks this small. I dont really have questions about the seahorses, I was just wondering if theres a shrimp or something that would fit in the tank (other than fish... I wouldnt put fish in a tank this small)

Provided that your tank is fully cycled and the temps are a little closer to the 78-80 range, sexy shrimp are small enough to go in your tank and should do pretty well. They are also quite entertaining...

i know u dont have it but i think u should get some live rock rubble. itll give something for the horse to hold onto and places for the shrimp to hide...if you do decide to get some make sure its Cured. smell it...if its smell like a good ocean its good. LR would also help the cycle finish.

just my 2 cents

really the only seahorse that can fit in a tank that small is a dwarf seahorse and they are quite $$$ and hard to find. another thing is seahorses like TALL tanks not wide. for two normal sized seahorse i would say at least a 29 gal. as far as a shrimp a sexy shrimp will work nicely. HTH

LionfishFinatic, read the above quote!

I've seen people with 10 full grown dwarves in a 2.5 doing fine. I would also recommend sexy shrimp. They are very neat and fun to watch. Go to www.liveaquaria.com for some good prices. Good Luck, hope to have some updates. I was in the process of setting a similar setup up for dwarves but stopped as soon as I read they only eat live baby brine. To much work for me.:)

Yup, Ive read all about them and this size tank is perfect. Anything larger than a 10 gallon is very hard to keep them, in because of feeding densities. I think Ill try to hunt down some hawaiian red shrimp because I could keep them in the tank with them horses. (they only get upto 1inch)
