Depending on a couple things or who you ask I have about 50-60lbs. LR already in my tank (from a couple fellow reefers) and its been there for about a month. It was for the most part cured with no noticible die off.

I just received the last 50 lbs. yesterday and to be safe we'll call it uncured. With this rock would you give it a good rinse and chunk it in the tank and hope for the best with hitchhickers and such? Or would you cure in a tub by itself?

I have an asterina star, a mushroom, and a feather duster or tube worm that have hitched a ride so far, oh and this the little bit of green in the center (Sorry, I'm not working with the best camera)...

Is this a zoa?

Any chance of harming what little bit of inhabitants I have with the addition of this last LR?

Thanks in advance!

yes those are zoa's.No it shouldn't harm anything.I never curerd none of my LR.Of course I did that befor learning the difference.I do always take some fresh water and softly scrud down the rock before I put it in the tank.I do it in a bucket so I can then sift for hitch hickers that might have fallen in.Though I'm sure you will here different. The problem is the die off.Not only will it make your sand a mess it will also give you some spikes in your readings.Which obviously aren't good for your tank and the inhabitents.

If it were me. I would not put it in the tank. If the tank has already cured and you are not sure about the rock. There is a chance you will get ammonia spike, Why risk it? But, as I state you are not me. If I spent my hard earned money and time to put a tank together and had my stuff die I would be p*** at myself for not taking the extra couple weeks to let the new rock sit in a tub and cycle. Correct me if im wrong, anyone.

You are so right, like I said I did that before I knew better,it looks like it's already in his display though.Nothing that can't be fixed!

SB,

I have the 50lbs. of new rock in a tub right now. The rocks in the picture have been in the tank for about a month. :smokin:

The tub I have is only 28 gallons and it seems a little tight, I can probably split them up between two tubs though.

Patience and a lot of :reading: have got me to this point, and I have to Thank the folks that I have bought equipment from on this site as well!

My apologies for that assumption. The right way is to cure it.Weather it will work the other way or not is up to you.Like I said it will make a mess and will raise your readings in your tank.Specificly ammonia like finfan pointed out.And that is somthing you really don't want.Like you said, patience! I wish I had this sight before I started. So much help and info!!!
