what would you do? rock transfer

here's the deal, I have over 100lbs of figi LR in my 75 gal. and am gonna switch it out with 100lbs of totaka LR. the LR I am getting will need to be cured still. here are some things I was planning on doing. let me know which would be the best way or if you had a diff. way.

1. take the old LR, fish, inverts, corals, ect. out of the main tank and transfer it to a few smaller tanks, and cure the new LR in the main tank so that it will have the skimmer and other filtration stuff to help it cure.

2. cure the new LR in the smaller tanks with just a powerhead and heater.

which would be the best way to do this as I am bascally tradding my old LR for the new LR and they would like it in about a month or so.

I'd cure the new rock in a separate vessel, this way you also have the ease of controlling any algae, aiptasia, etc. outside of the main tank.

Todd your makeover turned out great. alage isn't the reason for my makeover though, it is shrooms and kenya tree's that are overrunning the tank and is a pain in the *** tring to remove them before they get to the SPS corals.


on a side note ppl that say Shrooms don't do well in lots of light need to see my tank then :lol: 800 watts of MH over a 75 gal. and they grow faster then with PC's and they even grow at the highest point in the tank not in caves.

Funny enough, I "had" to redo my 75gal about 7 months ago, because of shrooms -- they were on ever single piece of rock. That one I did differently -- sold off half of the mushroom rock, and add new -- fully cured from an LFS rock. 3 weeks after that did the second half. The reason for the 3 weeks b/t was just for money reasons.

oh wow, well as god as my witness I will never have another shroom in the main tank again. I may setup a 30 gal. thats will have shrooms and kenya tree's but not in my main tank.

And you were right, lots of light didn't seem to effect mine at all either.

I would do it in a huge rubbermade bin. You can eliminate the need for a skimmer by doing a few phases of monsterous water changes. All you need is a bin, a powerful pump, a heater and a bunch of salt mix.

Thanks for the tip on the shrooms! IMO they're not pretty enough to risk having them take over teh whole damn tank. I just won't get any if it's going to be like that.

here is just an idea of my tank. this rock only had 2 shromms on it 4 monthes ago. and this is basically what all 100lbs of rock in my tank look like. now if only these were rare corals I could get 25.00 a piece for I could retire :lol:

prob. wouldn't be so bad but when they are attacking my other corals they act like the 300 spartan's they show no mercy.

and to think when I first saw my shrooms reporducing for the first time was like a little kid getting a new playstaion. :lol:
