The fish that died were all displaying classic ich symptoms, white spots, loss of appetite, increased breathing, flashing.
Are you sure it was not a white film/haze rather than raised white dots?

It was definitely raised white dots, I had 15 yellowstriped cardinals covered in them, and a flame angel with one of the worst cases I've ever seen, it was devastating. I have to get it right this time because it would be completely demoralising to go through this a third time.
There is no sand in my QT, just some PVC pieces, filter, heater and an airstone. I'll take a look tomorrow and see what the tang is looking like, I'll try to get a picture if I can.
What if 72 days wasn't long enough? Perhaps go for 12 weeks this round.
Well this is what I'm thinking....I'm not taking any chances this time. Having said that, if I can't catch the Anthias and they don't show any signs of ich, at what stage do I decide that I caught it early enough and the DT isn't infected?
Lol, never. Since you already did once do you whatever it takes to get the last fish out. It's just not worth the risk.
Resistant strain, cross contamination, multiple variables at play the first time. Don't be cocky and assume the worst and adjust for it.
Yeah I know you're right, I just really don't want to pull all my aquascape apart if I can avoid it, it's bonded together so I'd have to physically pull it apart inside the tank, would make a hell of a mess.
I've made a fish trap tonight so I'll see how that goes...
Is it all one big piece or multiple large pieces? I was in your shoes last year, I pulled it all out for a Royal Gramma I couldn't catch. Even tried fish the guy out with a small hook.
Anyway it sucked and my wife wanted to kill me for "turning the living room into an aquatic swap meet." I had 3 different 20 gallon containers treating everyone for Brook... Best part was, I discovered by hybrid powder blue tang gets really ****ed in smaller QT containers turning into a serial killer. He took out the Royal Gramma after all the hard work.
In the end, all my fish in the main tank are doing great. Including the serial killer. The tank is completely parasite free. Implemented a strong QT procedure with tank transfer and observation to eliminate future problems. You'll get there soon enough.
Good luck.
IMAG0321 by kenpau01, on FlickrKen, I have been thinking about your situation. I suspect that there was some issue (although I do not know what) in the process of acquisition and quarantine protocol. Would you be willing to go into excruciating detail and tell me what you did, in what order, so we can figure out where the problem is occurring? (we can do this via PM if you prefer, but I would have to modify my settings for that to happen)
DO you mean the quarantine of the tang/anthias or the fish that came out of the DT from the last outbreak of ich?
After reading Ripper, I had to look it up, then spent a good 15 mins reading other Australian slang. This is what I have come up with, I'm going to chuck a sickie with my spunk cobbers and hope we don't come across any bingles, bludgers or brown eyed mullets :spin3:
Good work catching the fish...
