whats a girl like me doing with a tank like this

Everything looks great. I think a 55g is a little small to have a yellow tang and shoulder tang in though. They both get big and like to swim.

I think it is a bit crowded myself.. If your live rock and/or log has enough bacteria it might make up for it but Tangs are only suggested for 75 Gal tanks and above because they need the room to swim.. Gets crowded for them.. I had a cool web link that showed how much water you should have for certain kinds of fish due to increased waste etc.. I looked for it and couldn't find it.

But an Inch of fish per gal or 1 fish per 10 gal.. that old rule.

I only have a 45 gal and never got a tang because a min 75 was suggested.. But if you have a sand filter that has mondo bacteria it should keep up..

Check your ammonia during this process..With any new addition your tank will cycle again.. depending on the new load..

Good luck..

I have to correct myself in the previous post.. 1 inch of fish per Fresh Water.. Saltwater is 1 inch of fish per 4 gal of water..

Sorry About My typo

Marinedepotlive.com Has the min tank size for fish... They actually suggest 100 Gal for your tang... Here is the quote..

Minimum Tank Size: The Yellow Tang (Hawaii) prefers a tank of at least 100 gallons with plenty of places to hide & swim.

Good Luck.. Sorry to bring up such things. I know it is a bummer. I went through this phase also when I was first beginning. I now have my eyes on a 200 Gal tank..

Actually, the inches of fish rule is a completely antiquated rule that is about 25 years past due to be purged from this hobby.

Stocking levels need to be evaluated on a case by case basis with criteria such tank size, types of filtration, and current inhabitants all playing a role in the final decision.

personatly i think the yellow is fine in a 55, but i wouldn't have added the orange shoulder. I think it looks good though, but i would say get a black background. The coraline is really awesome too, really covering the rocks. I would say for $400 you got an awesome deal!! Oh i have seen thouse logs before, they sell them at wal-mart lol Also try taking a couple pics with your flash off, it will look cooler, espically with the corals or rocks :P

thanks everybody for your inputs. my computer froze up right after i posted i was hoping to get some replys why i was still on. i have 2 of those logs in and they are plastic and the fish love to swim in them. i have a 75g empty now i was asking paintbug last night on how i could switch everything over. i could do that any time now. i plan to put a mirror 4 my background in my 75g. i just bought that shoulder tang and i didn't know how big it was gonna get untill people on rc told me. and about my bta after i posted when the water got cloudy should i take him out because he didn't look good, i lost him 2 days after. i could take those fake corals out they do look like ther are gathering stuff on them. what is a snd filter im not forsure if i have one of those? with my compact light and no bta now should i use the blue light or just the white and for how long? im so glad paintbug was able to show all of yall my pics. last night. i waited about 30mins after for replays when i didn't get any i thought maybe it wasn't that good after all. i was excited to see all the post this morning when i got back on line thanks for all your feedbacks.

I wouldn't reccomend a mirror for a background. Many fish will beat themselves up from trying to attack their reflection.

Needs more plastic treasure chests and pirate boats, etc.

The kind that move when they fill up with bubbles.

I want a Sponge Bob SquarePants in there too

I also second the mirror background advise above.

I love the coraline algae on the rocks. I also agree that it looks to fresh water. I personally like the fade blue backgrounds that are dark blue at the bottom and fade into a lighter blue at the top. I think black makes the tank look to dark in most cases. I was also going to mention the mirror making them attack the reflections and turning your flash off, but they already covered that. Also take your pictures on a slight angle with the glass so you dont get your own reflection in the glass.
