What's the best puffer and why?

I have a 350 gallon FOWL that only has a pair of maroon clowns and a vlamingi tang. I want to get a puffer, trigger, eel of some sort and a yellow or blue tang.

I am very open to suggestions at this point.

Thanks.

I like dogface puffers - they stay reasonable sized, for a true puffer, and IME are not very aggressive. Though like all puffers, they are gluttons and love their food. Dogface puffers also come in some less common, attractive color morphs. From the Solomon Islands, you can occasionally get black dogface puffers or dalmation dogface puffers.

You've got plenty of room for a porcupine puffer; they get to become real "pets". Tons of personality, eat anything, love attention, inexpensive, etc. A Porcupine Puffer always becomes a favorite; up front, begs constantly. Unfortunately, most folks don't realize how big they get and end up in keeping them in tanks that are way too small. Any of the Arothron puffers also would be great. Really, with your stocking plans, even the small puffers would work and you can get what YOU want---and that's the way it should be. Puffers should be de-wormed and need hard foods, like shrimp in the shell, to keep their teeth trimmed; but they generally are hardy and long lived.

I love my dogface puffer. He is just the regular color morph of grey with black dots but still has tons of personality and always beggs for food. Him and my foxface are like best friends and go everywhere together. He also was able to make it through a bad case of ick and is fine now so he is pretty hardy as well.

That Mappa Puffer on divers den earlier today looked really cool. Does anyone know if their color fades when they grow large?

their color and pattern lighten, but they are still very cool looking. google images of "mature mappa puffer" or "adult mappa puffer"

There are thumbnails of adults on fishbase:

Adult size of this fish is two feet long! I would not keep an adult mappa puffer (even at a foot and a half) in a home aquarium.

Mappa's are so cool.... but yea they get huge!!!! I had one for a few weeks & he was getting picked on way to much so he had to go, took him back to the LFS that I purchased him from. He then continued to double in size ev ery 3-4 months

Don't worry, my 300 is fully stocked... I may reconsider if I ever get my dream 10' x 4' tank. Although the largest puffer I've ever seen was 8" and he looked huge, I can't even imagine how big a 15" puffer would be! Probably 6" in diameter.

If you visit a public aquarium, look for the puffers in the "big" tanks. Even if they aren't at max size, they are massively thick.
