what's the best suppliment for Lord?

I've been adding amino acid (zeovid) to my LPS tank, went to the fish store and they told me i need to add 3 other additives to have good coloration. I don't know if this is true or they just trying to make money.

What is the best additive/suppliment for acan and enchino. The secret stuff you use to make them colored better.

mine will eat a mysis every now and then.. i can't see dosing several different supplements.. maybe a little bit of a mix but it sounds like a sell job to me - i think even most folks worry more about amino acids when it comes to SPS since most lps can gobble down silversides when they're large enough

thats just my personal take, though so .. yeah

I agree, it sounds like they're trying to sell you on products you don't need. First off, they will grow and have great colors in nothing more than a stable tank with adequate lighting. They don't even NEED to be directly fed, but will grab some of your fish's food. They will grow, and be perfectly happy this way.

That being said, if you want to assist with growth, feed them mysis and cylopeeze once or twice a week. I don't dose anything in my tanks, but just keep my parameters stable.

I couldn't agree more with the sell job. Good light, flow, and water quality will get the best out of your LPS. SPS may need the additional supplementation as we starve them to a small degree to bring out the best colors but IME it is not necessary to add supplements for LPS and softies. Mysis shrimp a couple times a week is enough food.

thank for the advice guys, i'm so glad i didn't end up buying 3 more suppliment at 39.99 each.

Jendub, where can i get artic pod? i live local to you so i should be able to get some around socal.

I notice my arctic pods tend to want to rise away from the acans and micros when I spot feed...they seem rather bouyant (sp?). What procedure do you all use with the Arctic pods to get them to stay on target?

BTW, The feeding response in all my lps corals is quite amazing when the Arctic Pods hit the water.

Yah, it's a catch 22. They float due to the high oil content. The oil is what is mainly utilized by the coral. Some batches tend to float more then others. This latest batch has a very good ratio of floating to oil content. If you make it down to the Bay Area (East Bay or South BAy) anytime soon, PM me and I will set you up with a bottle of the latest batch so you can compare the two :D

For spot feeding, I premix in a cup of tank water and allow the AP to sit for a minute. This helps, but doesn't totally solve, the floating issue. If your going to target feed, I highly suggest doing this.

If your not target feeding/spot feeding, I'd just squirt the Ap into a higher flow area (like right in front of a powerhead or your return) to allow the shear force to break apart the alginate (the stuff that makes it gooy).

BTW, The feeding response in all my lps corals is quite amazing when the Arctic Pods hit the water.

That would be due to a small amount of the oils leaking from the copepods, which is filled with fatty acids, amino acids, etc. Arcti-Pods are an excellent natural source for amino acids :D

they were some weird name stuff, but are zeovit.

I don't direct feed, just squirt some in front of the powerhead and call it a day =)

BTW- the new squeeze lid is SWEET!

Gresham, thanks for the info. That is pretty much what I do with it and try to spot feed. I usually turn off the flow so the stuff doesn't blow around when spot feeding AP with mysis, about 3 x's per week. When I feed in the early morning 2 x's week, lights off, etc. I just let it fly around with the oyster eggs. I think what I will do is just target feed the mysis a couple times per week and stick with the AP in the mornings when I let it fly. Thank you for the offer...I just bought a new bottle Sunday, it has April 9th as the Best used by date. Is that from the new batch?

Because I run the Zeo system I use various additives per the system. If I wasn't using the zeo system I probably would not add much in the way of additives, maybe some aminos and Coral Vitalizer. I believe you get most of what you need if you feed a good varied diet.
