LOL good thing I asked. I have the watermelon and noticed a deal on some eagle eyes... was going to buy them, but when i looked closer they looked the same.
There are many different morphs of eagle eyes, watermelons are just one of them. Best to save your money and get a large rock that has several morphs on the same rock. They come from Vietnam frequently. I've purchased rocks with 3-4 different morphs all growing together.
I think they are basicly the same.
Having said that, I do have to also say that Whammin Watermelons tend to be brighter looking, better color, and the ones that are not as bright, get the Eagle Eye label.
IMO the new name was just a money thing.
I have both, under 10k halides my watermelons looked exactly like eagle eyes but under 14k I can see the difference easily I think it depends on lighting.
from what i understand,
EE=yellow/greenish skirt, dark orange/red ring. purple/brown mouth.
W= bright green skirt, orange ring(find its less floresent) same mouth.
Zoas morph so they ultimatly are the same thing set aside from the fact that they are the same thing scientifically.
Ive got Watermelons that are developing green mouths and one i just noticed today which has a half green half purple/brown mouth.
anyone just have pics of both? i had a huge colony of watermelons, and everyone always called them eagle eyes...mine where under 14k de mh, and giesmann t5 actinics. and they glowed under that light. i loved them for as cheap as there where...they were brighter than some of my more expensive zoas
I thought I had a pic but I can't find it.
I have the 2 next to each other and they are different.
One is red and the other is orange and the size of the mouth makes it look like it has an additional ring.
