What's this green thing?

I have been cycling my tank now for almost 3 weeks. I was told to run the lights. I'm beginning to see green stuff pop up here and there. I took a few pics of one particular 'plant' that has begun to sprout something out of it. It's about an inch tall.

I was just wondering....we don't want plants to grow in our saltwater tanks...do we? If we start to see them, do we remove them? I have a very small patch of something beginning to grow on the back of the rock...could get any pics. But it looks like these will turn into plants too.

I'm not sure how to get the pics to appear in the post...but here are the links:

I thought some algae was a good thing. I dunno which algae that is...but it's cute...

...don't hurt it!

Well chances are what ever it is once you stock the tank if you put any # of inhabitents in there it will diappear in short order.Almost like to say it looks like a mangrove. But the stock don't look brown and it looks like the 1st part of a leaf has points. So I doubt it very seriously.

Looks like some sort of macro-algae. Someone smarter than me might be able to tell ya exactly what kind.

There are no saltwater plants, its all algae, both micro & macro.

An algae bloom is normal at the end of the initial cycle period. Usually this is the time to start doing routine water changes. At the end of my cycle, I did a 50% change then proceeded with 10-15% weekly thereafter. If the algae starts to take over the tank weeks down the road, then steps need to be taken, such as insuring good water quality (ie low nitrates and phosphates) etc.
