I use RO/DI water but have neglected water changes lately. I recently moved so the tank was greatly disturbed. I lost much coralline algae on the glass, but its coming back.

This is in a 38 gal tank, no skimmer and just use filter socks in the sump. I use an IceCap 660 ballast, one blue VHO super actinic bulb and 1 VHO white actinic.

I use a GX-2400 for the return pump and use 1 power head for circulation. I have many soft corals and all seem to e doing just fine. I have 1 hammer coral that is just flourishing. 1 small true percula, 1 blue chromis, a few snails (not as many as I should), one red hermit, one blue leg hermit and one peppermint shrimp

I just have no clue what this stuff is.

Are you sure its cyanobacteria? I've had that before in a different tank and this seems nothing like it.

After I look at it very closely I see only one longer strand which is about 1/2" long. Just one.

It looks very short/furry kind of like a peach or velvate and not bubbly at all like cyano.

I'll try the normal stuff ... scrubbing, water change, etc...

I know feeding isn't the problem, but my bulbs could use a change I bet.
