whats up with these rocks?

I was trying to catch some damsels to get them out of my tank. Well It's alot harder then I thought it would be. Any tips would be appreciated. I started to take out some of my LR to hopefully make it easier and this is what I found. Is this normal? The lower part is what the rock looked like when I first got it. The upper part is what it looks like now. Is there any way to clean it up, or should I get new LR. Also what are the little tube things growing all over the rock. I'm not talking about the little feather duster tubes. These are hard and I've never seen anything coming out of them. Here are the pics. Any help would be appreciated.

At first glance it doesn't seem to be anything to worry about. We all get wierd stuff growing in our tanks from time to time. If its not effecting any coral I would just leave it and see what happens next, before buying new rocks.

They look like vermitid snails, the send a sticky thread out to catch particles, then they eat them.

These tubes are hard, they're all over the place and make the tank look like crap. Is there any way to get rid of them. Maybe something that eats the tubes? Also whats the best way to catch damsels? I've been trying all afternoon and they're really becoming a PIA.

Good luck on the damsels..... Try putting some food into a net and hold in tank, if the fish goes in for food, pull it out! Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't

I have hear of people using a shop vac. Don't laugh! It's the same principle as the "slurp-gun".

Just have someone with their finger on the on/off switch and if/when you can get fairly close to the fish, have them flip it on for a bit.

It won't hurt the fish and MAY work...
