Whats wrong with my Gorgonian?

I had a LFS tell me it was getting too much light. I have read mix reviews on this. Is it not enough food or water flow? This forum is full of people I trust. You guys helped me a lot with my last post.

Some of the ends are going red like the orange yellowish stuff is falling off or something...

I'm not great at positively identifying gorgonians, but they look like they could be non-photosynthetic, in which case they need to be spot fed and are VERY difficult to keep long term. If they are photosynthetic they require high lighting and strong water flow.

It's Non-Photosynthetic. Unfortunately, the LFS shouldn't have sold you this. Most NPS corals should be left in the ocean as only an expert will be able to care for them long term. They need to be in a shady area of the tank. Preferably under a ledge or cave. They require a lot of flow and must be fed zooplankton almost daily. They also require pristine water conditions. Ideal conditions are undetectable nitrates and undetectable phosphates.

If you're not up to the task, I suggest you offer it to a fellow hobbyist that can properly take care of it as it will most likely die.

In the future I suggest researching all livestock prior to purchasing. Unfortunately, many LFS either don't know how to care for certain animals or simply don't care if they will survive as they collect your money and send you out the door.
