What's your favorite additive?

Zoe you running a skimmer on that 24g cube?
Fliger, remind me when you call about the C1 and the Aminos.

Jesse, yes I am. The Prodibio would be for my 160g system.

elousa/Jesse is here. Can TheMoneyPit be far behind?

David, I liked the Suns logo better. The Chiefs will do as they usually do, win the dicision, get in the playoffs and lose. :p

Decision Time: Here is what I am going to do on my nano.

NITRATE REDUCTIONS
Carbon dosing - 10 drops daily

CALCIUM/ALK/MG/STRO/ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:
Salifert All-in-one - calcium, alkalinity, essential elements, mg, str etc. One bottle contains enough calcium/alk and elements to last me about one year (5ml/week... 250ml bottle)! No need for calcium reactor, kalk replacement, two part A/B Cal/Alk.

FOR FOOD
-Fish/Critters-
Dainichi Dry baby size pellet (outstanding!) Feeding this to my clarkii clown totally transformed its color and strength.
http://www.dainichi.com/cichlid_food.html (ignore the cichlid pitch)
- also three times a week mysis to anemonies, sun polyp..overflow to the lucky winners

-Filter Feeders-
Two Little Fishies ZoPlan Advanced ZooPlankton Diet. This mix is so far superior to other zooplankton products I've tried. You put it in and for a brief time it is somewhat cloudy but the animals just filter this stuff out of the water like a vacuum cleaner or something. Very impressive.

[alternating with]

Two Little Fishies Phytoplan Advanced Plankton. I was using those frozen plankton cubes but was very dissatisfied with them. I think the fish ate most of it..even after mixing.

I added those two last products today and all my anemones, sun polyps, mushrooms, zoos were noticeably enhanced. I don't think I will be adding them each day, but we'll see. I honestly don't know the big difference in how the two products will impact the corals, but I can see that when mixed in water, it's small enough, and there's enough of it, to make a filter feeder banquet.

If I like the results I get on the nano, I will be trying them out on my big tank.

I find reef-additives to be one of the biggest mysteries of life. I have tried many different kinds over the years and have never been able to decide if one is the greatest or not.
Currently, I am using a lot of Kent product. I like their high concentration products as they seem to be significantly cheaper (to use) then the standard varieties. I use their Zoomax and Phytomax as food supply for pretty much all corals. I also add the Cyclopeeze bars, mysis and prime reef cubes, but I will probably discontinue the prime reef when I run out. As far as supplements go, I am using Kent elements , an all-in-one type product. Kent Magnesium, soon to be replaced by salifert magnesium or maybe Seachem, can't remember. I add Lugols solution and the occasional reef-builder, but that is really it. I like the phyto-feast product, but it is extremely hard to get here alive.
I know it seems like I am not adding much in additives, but it seems to work. My zoo population is growing like crazy, and now that I have changed the MH bulbs I am starting to see things open up even further.
Supplements are tough because often it takes a long time till they truly become noticably effective. Sometimes you give up on something to try something else, and "POW" your tank goes nuts. However it is hard to say if it is residual effects of the previous product or the new product. Or maybe it it just the right time for the coral to take off! Now wouldn't that be great! :-]

phlipper84... We have had some interesting discussions on the Prodibio thread.

http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=809340&perpage=25&pagenumber=1

It's a bacteria and additive based system some are trying. The base product of the line is designed to add bacteria that complete the nitrogen cycle resulting in clean water. It's a small vial you add every 15 days. They then have a variety of additives to put things back in the water that need to be there. What you said is true about giving things enough time to find out if they really work or not. Especially when you don't really know what's in the bottle. Foods are a bit more obvious. But additives probably are best done slowly. As I've read through this additives thread it seems there are some products that continue to pop up as favorites. Where there's smoke...

Simon: Cheers. And welcome to the AZ Forum.... Mr. Prodibio himself. I think I'm starting to see benefits as well. It suddenly occurred to me its been three days since I cleaned the glass and it was still clean.
