When building a plywood sump...

Is it better to silicone the corners of the wood sump , or is it better to fiberglass them ?

also ,

I see where every one uses plywood to build their diy wood tanks

but would it be ok to build one using MDF board, the reason I say MDF board is , is because its really smoth and not ruff on the surface like the regular plywood board is

I need some sources of where to get good safe epoxy and fiberglass if needed to cover the corners and the screw holes

thought when building a plywood tank, you fiberglassed the whole thing, not just the corners

Im not sure , I thought ive read everyone just fiberglasses the corners and then they just epoxy the rest of it

I need to do more research , I was just posting this for instant information from people

I cant use the search function on this site , because im not a paid member

I fiberglassed my bait tank when I built one. I asked around my fishing forums and the old salties told me it would last longer. It's been sitting on my boat for the past three years in the elements and it's still solid and no leaks.

ive talked to the guy that owns the shark tank at http://groups.msn.com/TheSharkTank

he fiberglassed his whole tank , and I talked with him a bit , , he has had his tank up for several years no with no problem ,

I will be looking more into different ideas ect.

Im just excited about making myslef finally do something where I can have a sump , A person can keep a tank alot prettier and cleaner when you have one

I see on garf where they dont even mention fiberglassing anythign , they just say paint it with epoxy then silicone the corners, if this woudl work I would do it , if anyone else has any opnion on that idea.

I just dont want this thing leaking

How well does silicone bond to wood? or to epoxy thats on the wood ?

oh I know that, but I remembered that I am going to have to use several pieces of plywood , so I will have seems , So I think I am going to be going the fiberglass method , then epoxy

I know several people who have used pond liners,

How thick of a pond liner would I need

for right now I could just get a pond liner or 2 because as far as right now , I would be happy with just getting circulation in my tank

also , I am wanting to get a container with holes in the bottom for one big filter pad , to absorb debris and detritus ect.
