When to add Macroalgae

Capsle

Hey reefers,

So I've been up and running now a bit more than 3 weeks since the cycle has completed.

I have a bit of live stock in my tank, about 1/2 my CUC, 2 O clowns, an urchin and RBTA.

I did setup a fuge in my sump but it's currently empty on bare glass.

My plan was to add some Chaeto and raise pods in it. When is a good time to add the Chaeto?

Also I have about 50 lb of crushed coral that was used in the tanks previous fresh water setup. Would the crushed coral be okay to use as substrate in the fuge?

Thanks in advance.

You can add macro algae now since you have fish and there will be nutrients in the water for the algae to live on. I would not add crushed coral to your sump, it will catch detritus, particularly in a sump where there is lower flow, and as the detritus decays it will lead to higher nitrates. You would be better off with rock in the refugium but if you want sand use a finer grained sand.

Awesome. Thanks for the info.

Would live sand be good or just regular aragonite?

What about miracle mud? I've read some good reviews about it but not sure if its application.
