When to raise my birdsnest?

Just curious what signs I should look for to know when to raise my birdsnest off the sandbed when acclimating it to the light.

Hi Stephent89

with all my SPS corals, I have been letting them spend 1 week on the sand bed
then moving them to final spot, if final spot is half way up or lower in the reef
if on the other hand it is an SPS destined for the upper levels, I find a spot for it half way up and let it spend another week there

I have a magnetic frag rack, which means I can achieve this will frags and small colonies by just raising it up the glass over those 2 weeks, rather than having to temporary locate it on rock structure only to be moved again later'

not sure they need this
but it has been working for me, so I am unlikely to change what I do

They can to stephen

if you suspect a general lightening of colour, a move downwards can help

I have found this to be the case with purple SPS corals in my reef, whose colours seem much stronger if I keep them at half way or below under my halides

I started my birdsnest out in their final spot, pretty high in the tank. They did good from the start, but when I tried to raise the intensity of my LEDs the pink birdsnest starting losing color and bleaching a little, the green one didn't do much, but the PE was reduced during that time. I lowered the lights back down a few days after that.

Ok thanks. I got a good sized frag from a local reefer and he had his under a 250 watt MH. I have a 120 watt led fixture so I'm curious how the switch will go.

I keep my birdsnest pretty low because they are pretty hardy and can take it. I consider it a low light sps if that helps. But I like Steve's idea of using the rack with magnets. +1 on that.

Also the polyp extension is great, but I have noticed that it is turning a little brown and losing its pink color. Does this mean I should try raising it up now? All of my parameters including alk is in check.
