Where do I feed my Hammer Coral???

I have the mysis shrimp for it, but honestly, I have no idea where to put the shrimp when it's feeding time.
The other day, I turned off the water pump, and set some mysis shrimp on top of the Hammer Coral on each branch. And it just sits there. Is there special place I should of put it...I'm trying to figure out where it takes it in at. Do I need to move the tentacles back and find a special area?
And do I need to put garlic on it, or do I just feed it the shrimp by itself. How many per feeding time?

Not to mention, my clownfish that just recently decided to call it its home started to pick at the shrimp a little while later.
