Where is the best place to get live rock? What kind of live rock is best? Fiji, Tonga, Caribian??? Does it matter? Can you mix them?

IMO, the best source of LR is from a local reefer that is taking down a tank, or just selling LR. Also, IMO just get what looks good to you. Other than that, IDK

I agree. Live rock from a lfs is too expensive, and rock online you can't see first. I would keep an eye on craigslist or some local clubs.

You can mix them, no problems. Fiji and Tonga are good, I think usually Tonga is considered nicer. I believe Caribbean to be a lower grade rock.

How close are you to Premium Aquactics? They have good reviews for online rock. Being in IL I'm beating you can get regular ground shipping and get it in one day. Also, another great source is dry Fiji rock from MarcoRocks.

I have some rock that was given to me. But need much more probably 50lbs. I think I will go with premium aquatics. Thanks.

If you buy online tell them you are willing to spend a little extra for hand picked pcs. You will usually get larger pcs. and still save alot of $ compared to the LFS

I believe their may be laws against collecting your own. I'm not certain, but I would check to be 100% sure.

In Florida, and I'm pretty sure the rest of the U.S., it's illegal to collect live rock, even if you have a collectors permit (this allows you to collect aquatic life). Anyways anything along the coast is probably polluted.
