Where to buy pure ammonia in O'fallon Mo

Need to purchase a small amount of PURE ammonia to do a fishless water-cycle for my freshwater tank. Just tried Wallyworld and all they had was "Clear Ammonia" with "Surfactant".... Not good to use. Anyone already been down this road and want to save me some gas money, please let me know.

Almost have my Discus tank ready for water, and will post pix once complete. Thank you for your past, present, and future support even for us lowly freshwater fishgeeks. I haven't yet found a strong Fresh-forum specifically local to the St Louis area.

Eww, a FW tanker!

That's too bad about walmart, I believe I got my ammonia there to do the same thing in the past and mine read as "pure ammonia". I did the same thing with cycling back then. I've seen some people suggest peeing in the tank. That probably doesn't help, huh? Good luck to you.

If you ever make it to Webster Groves or Hazelwood, I can give you some 26% blueline ammonia.

Curious what blueline ammonia is...?

And thanks so far on suggestions, keep them coming. I don't think I could get away with peeing in the tank....although, I assumed at least one person in the world has done it....and the fish do....and we all do in the lakes....and streams on float trips......and....""never in the pool".....it worked in other successful tank installations....

Ok, still just not hip to that idea....

I did a fishless cycle on a cichlid tank last summer and the only place in the area I could find 100% pure ammonia was at Shop N' Save- the one right near the intersection of K and Highway 70 on Veterans Memorial. I'm sure the other Shop N' Save on K would have it also if that one is closer to ya. I still have most of the bottle in my basement since you don't end up using that much. Think it was only $1.

Blueline ammonia is pure ammonia that's used to develop blueline drawings (blue prints). Regular household stuff is 5%, this stuff is 26%

If the bottle says: Ingredients - Ammonium Hydroxide solution and quality control agents.

That's pure ammonia isn't it? The QC agents don't really add anything of any significance, do they?

Well, upon looking around on some FW boards and searching for this brand of ammonia, it looks like the stuff several other people have used to cycle with and it's what I used with no problems. I don't know if ammonia has a shelf life (this stuff is probably a few years old), but I have some Sea Mist clear ammonia. Unfortunately, I'm not exactly close to you. You could have some of it freebie, as I have most of a 32 fl oz bottle left of it, but it would be a drive for just that. Perhaps some grocery stores would carry it?

I have always fed the tank using flake food, feed 2-3x er week like if there were fish in there, after a month your reading should be 0/0/0 or at least close enough to add fish. Cycle it out and you'll be fine.

Just a follow up and closing comment on this subject. I did look at a few other stores, but it seems that all of the products that say clear ammonia have surfactants added. Surfactants are soap, or actually chemical additives that essentially make up soap.

Thanks to the people that offered freebies, there are some really generous people out there, kudos to you.

I chose to try the flake feeding method, I'm at one week right now, and the ammonia is spiking around 5 or 6ppm which is exactly what the plan calls for. You can't control and measure ammonia specifically using this method, but so far it's working like a champ.

After this experience, something that's strange but interesting to me about the nitrogen cycle is:, "The Nitrogen Cycle happens whether the fish food passes through fish or not!"
