Where to buy Southdown Sand

I was going to ask the same...I was at Home Depot looking for southdown and they no longer have the "Tropical play sand" which is the southdown. The premium sand now contains silicates and staes on the package, "not for use in aquariums..." Anywhere else that southdown can be found???

I have checked a lot of HD's in my area and they do not seem to carry it... I heard that regular silica based sand can be used too? I want to get rid of my Crushed coral in an upgrade i am planning that is why I am looking for Southdown

I think I read somewhere that Southdown is no longer being distributed anymore. The only Southdown you'll find is leftover pallettes from last year's stock.

Some people use silica sand with little to no problems. However, silica based sand does increase the production of diatoms in freshwater, I believe it does the same in saltwater as well. Also, many people prefer to use calcium carbonate-based substrates due to the ph buffering and the smaller grain size.

I posted for some southdown about 3 months ago and someone responded (sorry I do not know who) with the HD in Sayerville on Rt.9 Southbond. They did have about a half pallet at the time. Maybe 50 bags or so, just a guess.
